Audi entered a factory racing team run by Joest Racing into the American Le Mans Series under the Audi Sport North America name in 2000. This was a successful operation with the team winning on its debut in the series at the 2000 12 Hours of Sebring. In 2003 Audi sold customer cars to Champion Racing as well as continuing to race the factory Audi Sport North America team.
