The vehicle was unveiled in the 2012 Paris Motor Show, and went on sale in the first quarter of 2013. The fourth generation Mazda MX-5 was unveiled in 2014 and has been in production since 2015. An updated model was introduced in 2018 and is visually identical to the pre-update model.
